Kenya Police have been promoted to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL)after beating Vihiga United 2-1 on aggregate in the Promotion/Relegation playoff. The two teams played out to to a one-all draw in the first leg and in the second leg staged at the Utalii Grounds on Sunday, a Clinton Kinanga first-half goal is all Police needed to send United to the National Super League (NSL). Stewart Omondi, Lawrence Luvanda and Isaac Otieno looked to create chances which they never really capitalised on.The next big chance went Police’s way in the 29th minute when a well-floated ball from Ojiambo Favistine nearly beat Mustafa on goal but recovered to parry it over.Police won a penalty in the 32nd minute which Alvin Mang’eni stepped forward to take. Mustapha pulled a huge save to deny him but Kinanga was well-placed to score on the rebound. United had a good chance to equalize in the 43rd minute but Stewart Omondi’s freekick went direct to Ruben Juma’s waiting hands.United coach Mike Mururi went for a tactical change after the interval, he withdrew striker Kevin Omondi for Dennis Monda, a midfielder. In the 56th minute, Michael Odongo had a great chance to draw United level but his shot rattled the upright before flying out.Scenes! Lawrence Luvanda hit the crossbar from a freekick in the 67th minute much to the dismay of the visitors. Kevin Mwaura should have doubled the hosts’ lead in the 76th minute but Oduor pulled a point-blank save to deny the attacker.Despite their late raids, United did not manage to get the leveller and they now head back to the National Super League.
