Livid Vihiga United blame Tusker for their relegation

Vihiga United head coach Mike Mururi has accused Tusker FC of jeopardizing their survival plans after they got relegated on Sunday following a 2-1 aggregate defeat to Kenya Police FC in the FKF-PL/NSL play-off.United’s relegation from the top tier was confirmed on Sunday afternoon after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Police at Utalii Grounds. The two teams had played out to a one-all draw in the first leg staged at the Mumias Sports Complex.Mururi’s side’s preparations were hindered by the unavailability of two key players who were training with Tusker FC. Lawrence Luvanda and Stewart Omondi were training with the Brewers who were keen on signing the highly-rated duo. Tusker released the players days before the first-leg duel and Mururi believes that the duo was not fully focused on the playoffs, which, in the end resulted in them dropping to the second tier.Henry Meja,Lewis BandaLawrence LuvandaFrank OdhiamboSylvester OwinoRodgers OumaAmbrose Sifuna have been nominated for the young player of the #FKFPL season award.Who deserves it the most?#TheGamePlan pic.twitter.com/ivi3qy2s25— Carol Radull (@CarolRadull) August 30, 2021 “If you watched the two players keenly, they did not five 100%, their minds are already out of the team and they were just here to honour the game. Tusker taking them before the playoffs was not the right thing because it destabilized them mentally, we know what the two players are capable of but against Police, they were playing with some fear it is like they were trying to avoid being tackled and getting injuries and when your best players are not at their best, it becomes very hard,” he told Mozzart Sport. The tactician also believes that they did not prepare well for the game. United’s players were on strike for weeks and only resumed training a couple of days before the match, they were largely unfit and it showed in the first leg when they got overwhelmed in the closing stages of the game. He also believes that they should have downed the law enforcers in the first leg.“We did not have enough training because of issues beyond us and when you have not trained well heading into such an important game you are always disadvantaged. That said we should have won the first leg at home that would have made things easier for us, we had good chances to score goals but we failed and in the end we have paid the ultimate price,” he added.Match Update| 90+3’⚽ GOOOOAAAAL ⚽Luvanda converts a penalty awarded to Vihiga after Oputi brings Stewart Omondi down in the box🟡 Kakamega Homeboyz 1 – 3 Vihiga United ⚫#HomeboyzVsVihiga#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/TapmSSiq2l— FKF Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) August 18, 2021 United will now prepare for life in the second tier.
