Politicians hand cash-strapped AFC Leopards a lifeline with hefty donations

Sympathetic politicians led by President of the Republic Uhuru Kenyatta, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and sitting Cabinet Secretaries pooled resources on Thursday night to bail out Kenya’s second most decorated football club AFC Leopards from a debilitating debt owed to former players and coaches.The political class managed to raise Ksh8.6 million slashing the debt owed to former Ingwe tacticians and players by half. The club had made partial payments but still incurred the wrath of world governing body for their sins.President Kenyatta led the way by donating Ksh2 million, new Defence Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa who previously donated a bus to the team donated Ksh1.5 million. The three are Andre Cassa Mbungo a former coach who’s currently in charge of Bandari, the Rwandese duo of Soter Kayumba and Vincent Habamahoro. Completing the list is Burundian midfielder, Tressor Ndikumana.Kakamega County Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya brought Ksh. 500,000 while Sports CS Amina Mohamed donated Ksh. 200,000. They downed Tusker by a solitary goal in Thika on Sunday. The team will now embark on beefing up with the goalkeeping department, defence, and attack areas of priority.
