Aussems – My ambition is to help Ingwe win a title

AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems has reiterated his desire to help one of the country’s most successful clubs roll back the years as they attempt to bask in the hey days that saw the club lift twelve Kenyan league titles back then to make them the joint second most successful club.Since 1998, Ingwe have not tasted any success when it comes to clinching the league title as fierce rivals Gor Mahia have made headway and dominated locally while they watch and stagnate when it comes to mounting a title challenge. However, since taking over mid through the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) season, Aussems has shown glimpses of resuscitating the sleeping giants in his bid to become the first coach to win Ingwe a title in the 2000s.The eagle has landed! 🦅Welcome back, @PatrickAussems 🤝#Ingwe pic.twitter.com/2dLhitpq6i— AFC Leopards (@AFCLeopards) October 2, 2021 After helping Ingwe to a fourth place finish last season, the Belgian tactician has fixated his eyes on going one step better as he begins the full season with Ingwe.“I want AFC Leopards to be the biggest team in Kenya again. I have a two year contract and I will be here to help this team and these young players to win a title this season,” the head coach told Mozzart Sport. However, standing in the way of the ambitious manager’s plans of lifting a title this season is a transfer ban imposed on the club that has made it impossible for the team to make any replacements after losing a large base of key players who propelled them to a fourth place finish – their highest since the 2013 season. The head coach optimistic the ban will be lifted after a successful fundraiser to ensure smooth sailing in the newcampaign.“I want to win this season. But to be honest, we need to be allowed to recruit some players to add to the team. We cannot play the whole season with the squad we have. I am really happy that we have stuck with our philosophy of playing football since I came. I just hope that this FIFA case could be fixed before our next game,” the head coach added.CLUB UPDATE Thank you for your selfless and generous donations in yesterday’s harambee. Together we have done it! #OursForever #INGWE https://t.co/G2cgbiSvdy— AFC Leopards (@AFCLeopards) October 1, 2021 When the international break is over, AFC, who stunned reigning champions Tusker 1-0 on the opening day of the league, will be taking on last season runners up KCB hoping for the same results.
