Let’s be reasonable with Newcastle’s potential signings

Which ever times are ahead of Newcastle United, good or bad, they will be for sure exciting. The huge amount of money that poured into the club will have to be utilized properly. The executives of the club from the north of England will have to learn from the examples of Manchester City and PSG who needed some time to become the ones to beat in European football. And surely there are social media nods of some of the biggest names of football nowadays moving to Newcastle but let’s keep it real – who are the players that really could move to the city on river Tyne and use this opportunity to revive their careers?Sat, 23/10, 17.00: (2.05) C. PALACE (3.50) NEWCASTLE (3.90)Between the posts – the one that should have been an Arsenal player by now but a suspension got in the way (his ban ends in November after being reduced from 12 months to nine by the Court of Arbitration for Sport). Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana has Champions League experience and his contract with Ajax expires in the summer of 2022. Perfect for the ambitious likes of the fresh Newcastle boardroom. At 25 years of age, Onana could be Newcastle’s number 1 for the next ten years.Andre Onana (©Gallo Images)Every trophy-winning team needs a a reliable defender who allows you to keep clean sheets and lets the flair players do their magic at the top of the pitch – in comes James Tarkowski.Getting ahead of West Ham and other interested clubs would be the smart move and getting a deal done in January by offering Burnley a fee may be the best choice as Tarkowski is another player available for free next summer. He is 28, sturdy, twice-capped England centreback and knows the Premier League like the back of his hand.James Tarkowski (©Gallo Images)To pair up with Tarkowski, someone who has the talent, has the physical abilities abut lacks playing minutes in an European powerhouse. Barcelona are in trouble and they need to ship players fast and Samuel Umtiti is the one Newcastle could snatch. Truth be told, he isn’t the player he once was after struggling with injuries – however, there is still a very good defender. At 27, Umtiti will be adding a bit more flair big-game experience.Let’s move up-field a bit. Once one of the biggest English midfield talent has hit a wall at Chelsea. He did have a great start with Aston Villa on loan last season but that was about it. Ross Barkley could use an environment that would give him room to display his skills and shot power while not being considered a back up. Newcastle is probably the way to go for the ex-Everton prospect.Ross Barkley (©Gallo Images)Another midfielder, another footballer who knows his way with the ball. Dribbling, shot, pass, use of space – all attributes of Nabil Fekir, the 28-year-old Frenchman who, instead of being one of the Liverpool attack options, has been playing for Real Betis since 2019. He could use the chance that offered itself in English football and elevate his career to the next level.Nabil Fekir (©Gallo Images)Last two on this list – quick-footed attacking options from Barcelona. One is is a paceful winger capable of outrunning any opponent with his incredible first step and long stride – Ousmane Dembele. The other – trickster that could outdribble any defender with his arsenal of feints and killer shot from distance – Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian is arguably the highest-profile player on this list but he is out of favour in Barcelona and the club are desperate to offload his wages as they continue to struggle financially.Coutinho’s age (29) shouldn’t be seen as a negative. The Newcastle team in the making will need experienced players who know what it is like to not only compete for major trophies but win them.In last couple of years Dembele has been seen as a disposable player but for different reasons to Coutinho. The non-stop injuries kept him on the sidelines and if Newcastle can keep him fit and healthy, Dembele will become the one for the future as well and a poster boy to the rebuild.Coutinho, Dembele, Umtiti (©Gallo Images)What about the one who will lead and manage this team of talents? Well, Steve Bruce is currently at the wheel but he will surely not be there for long. A lot of names are being mentioned with Steven Gerrard, Roberto Martinez and Unai Emery being the forerunners to succeed the experienced Englishman. It’s a new dawn for the Magpies and football excitement is on the way across English and European pitches.
