Omala and Lwasa on the mark as Gor Mahia emasculate Kariobangi Sharks to join FKFPL leading pack

Nineteen-time Kenya champions Gor Mahia bounced back from a two-match losing run against Kariobangi Sharks with a resounding 2-0 victory in a rescheduled Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) tie at Kasasani stadium. The Wednesday lunchtime fixture hoisted K’Ogalo to nine points, same as the division’s leaders Nairobi City Stars and two other teams as Sharks were left to deal with a first loss of the season.”Gor Mahia showed good maturity in the game today and I think that is what gave them the advantage. On our side I think we could have stopped ourselves from conceding the two goals,” Sharks head coach Muluya said after the game.”The boys made a good effort in the match. Obviously, Sharks tried pressing us high with the way we play but credit to the team. We just have to keep going in the right direction the way we are,” Harrison remarked.Coming into the match on the back of being victims of a league double from Sharks last season, K’Ogalo were intent on capitalizing on their momentum that had seen them pick 2/2 wins so far in this campaign if they were to avenge and erase the bad piece of record they had against Sharks.FT: K. Sharks 0 – 2 Gor Mahia( Omalla 12′, Lwasa 83′ ) It’s strange for us to play at lunch time ( 1pm) right? No stress, we had a good lunch – a fried SHARK is so delicious. Once again, we’ve whipped the hell out of them… and we are rolling. 💪💪#Sirkal | #Betsafe pic.twitter.com/4X3NZphQQ8— GOR MAHIA FC (@OfficialGMFC) October 27, 2021 Fortunately for Gor, a quick getting out of the blocks in the match saw them lay down their marker of intent. Just eleven minutes in, on song Benson Omala who had scored two goals in two league games played so far managed to find his third of the season after being in the right place at the right time in the box as he tapped in from close range to hand Gor an early lead and a building block.Stung into action by the early goal, Sharks got out of their shells as they went in search of the equalizer as soon as possible. Just ten minutes after going down, Eric Mata made a surging run from his halfway line all the way to Gor’s box as he caused trouble to Harun Shakava and John Ochieng’. His impressive dribbling skills threatened to wreak havoc had it not been the combined intervention of the two players who just got fortunate to poke the ball out for a corner as they averted any possible danger.##NAJAVA_MECA_5928959##Wary of the danger that comes with just having a one goal lead, Gor reacted as they tried to find a second. Two minutes to the half hour mark, they came close to doubling their advantage when Austin Odhiambo, after confusing the Sharks defense with his quick feet set off a cute back-pass for the oncoming Sammy Onyango who only needed to find some accuracy with his strike. He however didn’t do that as his resultant effort went sky high over the crossbar.Three minutes later, Peter Lwasa came close to doubling the team’s lead when he saw the goalkeeper off his line and attempted a long range drive. Lucky for Sharks, Brandon Obiero raced back and just tipped the ball in time to redeem himself. That proved to be the final meaningful act as Gor headed into the break with the slightest of advantages.Match Update| 11’⚠️ GOOOOAAAAL ⚠️Benson Omalla gives K’Ogalo the lead inside the opening fifteen minutes after a close range tap in. Just a minute in, Julius Masaba who had just been substituted in attempted to make an effort but his shot sailed wide, an attempt nonetheless. While Sharks were in desperate search of finding an equalizer, Gor were growing patient and looking to hit on the counter after introducing speedy Boniface Omondi for Sammy Onyango in the 63rd minute. That decision almost paid off as a long ball set Omala free upfront. The young striker coolly dinked the ball over the goalkeeper but to his disappointment the goal was ruled out for offside. With ten minutes left on the clock, old boy Lwasa came back to haunt his charges as he capitalized on a goalkeeping error from Obiero who was in a hurry to launch a counter. After a botched pass, Lwasa picked the ball and fired straight into the back of the net to confirm the three points for Gor.
