Sassuolo stun Juventus in injury time

Massimiliano Allegri probably expected another 1-0 victory over Sassuolo, to mark his 200th game at Juventus bench, but his players provided only bitter disappointment, as they allowed Maxi Lopez to score a winner in the last minute of injury time for an unlucky victory: Juventus – Sassuolo 1-2. Juventus have only lost one of their 16 Serie A matches against Sassuolo, and seven of their eight Serie A matches against them at home, but tradition is here to be broken and brave guests did that tonight. The home team didn’t do enough and didn’t deserve to win, while Sassuolo didn’t think much about the tradition against Italy’s giants, but played their game and used their chances. In fact, they could have easily scored two more, but they won’t be disappointed after all. They are now only one point away from Juventus, who is in 6th place, 13 points behind the league leaders Milan.12 – Juventus have conceded 12 goals in this season: the last time they conceded as many goals after the first 10 seasonal #SerieA games was back in 1992/93. Fragility.#JuveSassuolo— OptaPaolo 🏆 (@OptaPaolo) October 27, 2021 Juve nearly scored in the second minute of the match, but Bonucci missed from close range after a great Chiesa free kick. Juventus supporters had to wait another 56 minutes before their team had a proper chance. In between those two chances, Sassuolo scored once and had two great chances. Before the leading goal, Juve keeper Perin had to really stretch out to save a shot from Berardi. And just a minute before the end of first half, the guests scored. Defrel’s through ball was pounced upon by Frattesi who had a great finish: 0-1.

Second half began with another great chance for the guests, but this time it was Raspadori who missed a clear chance. Finally Juve showed signs of life after that chance, and became much more dangerous. Cuadrado’s shot was blocked by Kaan on the line, and two minutes later, Juve had two consecutive chances but Dybala and Chiesa didn’t made it. It was up to McKennie to equalize in the 76th minute, as the American rose above everybody else and sent the ball into the net. Juve tried to score the winning goal, but Sassuolo was not having it and left Turin with a valuable point.
