Sharks eviscerate Mathare United in lopsided Slum Derby

Kariobangi Sharks made an explosive return to winning ways as they wiped the floor with Mathare United in a 6-0 rout in a Football Kenya Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) clash staged at the Kasarani Annex.Felix Oluoch scored a hat-trick in the clash with Erick Mata and Stephen Otieno scoring the first goal to collect bragging rights in the Slum Derby.Sharks came in the clash reeling from their defeat to Gor Mahia in a midweek encounter and needed nothing short of three points having drawn last weekend’s game against Wazito FC.##NAJAVA_MECA_5938861##Mathare were in contrasting fortunes having won back to back games against Sofapaka and Nzoia Sugar which finally got them going after a staggering start to the second that saw them lose twice.Sharks were quickly off the blocks and with the referee’s kick off white still echoing around Kasarani Stadium, William Muluya’s charge stole the lead.Kinsman Omulanga brought down Julius Masaba in the right flank with Stephen Otieno hitting a sumptuous freekick that cannoned off the woodwork to tickle the net.Sharks were on the ascendency and pegged Mathare United back and came close again in the 21st minute when Fredrick Alushula hit a pass across the face of goal that was tapped just wide Geoffrey Onyango.Mathare’s best chance of the half that was them finish it without a shot on target came in the 23rd minute when John Mwangi laid the ball off to Martin Nderitu who hit the side netting with his effort from outside the box.Mathare’s task in the game was complicated further when Meshack Muyonga was sent for an early shower after bringing down Julius Masaba who was well on course for a goal scoring opportunity. The resultant freekick almost found the back of the net when Patillah Omoto played it short to Geoffrey Onyango but Job Ochieng pulled a smart save to deny former Sharks Under 20 defender as they went into the half time break with 1-0 lead.Sharks turned on the heat in the second half as they doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Stephen Otieno fed Felix Oluoch to tap home with the simplest of finishes.Oluoch doubled his tally three minutes later when Mata cushioned the ball onto Oluoch’s path with his head and the former AP Bomet forward did the rest.If Sharks turned on the heat in the opening minutes of second half then now the heat was closer to the sun when Alushula delivered a cross that was tapped home by Eric Mata and he had the respect not to celebrate against his former side two minutes later.Sharks did not take their foot off the gas pedal as they got their sixth of the game when Enock Wanyama played Mata through to complete his brace off the bench.Mathare United head coach Ezekiel Akwana was less impressed with his team’s effort after the 6-0 defeat and lamented the red card.”The game was not good, we played poorly from start to finish it’s like the players were tired and gave away a lot of miss passes, we were also not pressing with unity,””It was not a red card because he first removed a yellow card and changed his decision and he was not really the last man in the game,” said Akwana. His counterpart Muluya was delighted to have returned to winning ways following the 2-0 defeat to Gor Mahia but was more delighted to see a combined team effort rather than Felix Oluoch score.”It was a lesson because after losing against Gor Mahia were we played well it was important to come back and win this game, it’s a good thing to have Felix and Mata on the score sheet, not many matches come where you have many goals on the score sheet,””The team has helped Felix so I won’t really focus on him, I will see it as a great team effort to help us win the game,” said Muluya.Sharks XI: Brandon Obiero, Fredrick Alushula, Geoffrey Lemu, Samuel Olwande, Geoffrey Onyango, Patillah Omoto, Daglas Mokaya, Julius Masaba(Erick Mata), Stephen Otieno, Fortune Omoto (Henry Juma), Felix Oluoch,Subs: Brian Olang’o, Eric Juma, Boniface Onyango, ISSA Lumumba, Reagan Odede, Ken Kyalo, Keith Imbali, Enock Wanyama, Patrick Otieno.Mathare XI: Job Ochieng, Kennedy Ochieng, Martin Ongori, Victor Odhiambo, Norman Ogolla, Meshack Muyonga, Alphonse Ndonye, Martin Mugua, Danson Kago, John Mwangi, Eugene Wethuli.Subs: Bryne Omondi, Anthony Oginga, Juma Jackson, Chrispin Oduor, Abondo Ali, Clifford Alwanga, Daniel Otieno, Harun Junior, Musa Saidi.
