Vihiga bite the bullet in City Stars plummeling

Nairobi City Stars extended their unbeaten run to five games following the 4-0 whitewash against a misfiring Vihiga Bullets side in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) clash staged at the Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday.Vihiga Bullets head coach Evans Mafuta revealed the thumping came as shock to him after rigorous preparations to the game “I’m happy that we have honoured the game, this result is part of football but we were expecting a better result based on our preparation, we are not happy with the performance, coming into the game after scoring two goals against Homeboyz we expected to get goals in this game and it not a good thing when we score,” said Mafuta. His counterpart Nicholas Muyoti was impressed with the mental approach from his players with Vihiga Bullets current rooted to the foot of the table.”I thought it would be a very though match and our players took it very seriously it did not matter to them where Vihiga are in the league and I’m happy about the seriousness from the players, our approach to every match is to win it,” said Muyoti.City Stars were enjoying some fine form after going four games without tasting defeat, winning three games on the spin before settling for a barren draw against Posta Rangers last time out.Vihiga Bullets have looked out of place since garnering promotion last season from the National Super League (NSL) having yet to register victory in the top flight and have only two games to their name which all came in the 3-2 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz.Timothy Ouma who has been in fine form this season needed only two minutes to start terrorising the Bullets defense as he turned them inside out before setting up Oliver Maloba with a defense splitting pass that was guided into the net but the goal was chalked off for offside.Nicholas Muyoti’s men finally made their early advantage count in the 10th minute when Anthony Kimani whipped in an inch perfect freekick that evaded everyone and found Salim Abdalla in the far post for a simple tap in.Bullets’ only shot at goal came in the 13th minute when Jessey Kajuba’s speculative shot from outside the box presented easy pickings for Jacob Osano in goal.Bullets steadied the ship after a rocky start but could have gone into the half time break trailing 2-0 were it not for Maloba’s poor finishing when he could not find the target despite a gaping goal in front of him with his chip after the goalkeeper’s clearance found him.Coach Evans Mafuta’s half time team talk seemed to have inspired the boys as the returned a much more rejuvenated side as they came close in the 51st minute when the ball feel kindly to Kajuba but his shot was expertly dealt with by Osano in goal.City Stars doubled their advantage two minutes after the hour mark when Timothy Ouma delivered a cross to Oliver Maloba whose touch was heavy but fell kindly to Ezekiel Odera who toe poked the ball inside the net.Anthony Kimani bagged his second successive goal after his strike against Posta Rangers last time out profiting from a goal mouth melee after Vihiga Bullets failed to clear their lines.Kimani was a thorn in the flesh of Bullets as he pinged a long pass from his own half that located Vincent Okoth who had just come on as a substitute minutes earlier as his first time feeble finish trickled into the net.City Stars settled for the 4-0 win as Vihiga Bullets’ misery in the league extends.City Stars XI: Jacob Osano, Kevin Okumu, Dennis Wanjala, Abdalla Salim, Kennedy Onyango, Sven Yidah, Timothy Ouma (Peter Opiyo 65′), Anthony Kimani, Davis Agesa (Okoth , Oliver Maloba (Peter Opiyo 65′), Ezekiel Odera (Ibrahim Sanneh 65′).Subs: Stephen Njunge, Edwin Buliba, Calvins Opollo, John Kamau, Elvis Noor, Vincent Otieno, Mike Madoya.Vihiga Bullets XI: Richard Aimo, Nickson Kalwale, Philip Mwangale, Mophat Kovelo, Jackson Saleh, Lucas Waitere, Jessey Kajuba, Nicholas Masamba, Lucky Musyoki (Amos Kigadi), Michael Isabwa, Rashid Kyamba.Subs: Matasio Michael, Bryan Sifuna, Martin Okumu, Lonny Amadiva, Kevin Sagida, Sabula Cheloti, Patrick Ong’anya, Vincent Odongo.
