CAFWCL: Vihiga Queens face herculean task against AS FAR

Vihiga Queens have an uphill task when they lock horns with Morocco’s AS FAR Club in their second group B match at Al Salam Stadium, Cairo at 5 PM EAT.The Kenyan girls have it even tougher having in mind that they have to win this match to keep their hopes of progressing to the knock-out stages after losing in their opening match to Mamelodi Sundowns by a solitary goal.Ahead of the game, Vihiga Queens coach Charles Okere is beaming with confidence that his charges are ready for the match and is upbeat that they can match the quality of the Moroccans.”We’ve worked on the mistakes we made in our last game, the girls are RE-ENERGIZED,PSYCHED UP&READY for tomorrow’s match against https://t.co/jTgYIzdKry IS POSSIBLE!”Coach Charles Okere’s message today during the Pre-Match Press Conference. Its Time. Its Now!#TotalEnergiesCAFWCL pic.twitter.com/FDTZcRHBYm— Vihiga Queens FC (@Vihigaqueens) November 8, 2021 Okere also added that the three-time Kenya Women Premier League champions have quality players to stop Sanaa Massoudy who run riot over River Angels in the opening match.“After our first match, our loss against Mamelodi, we trained on the mistakes we’ve made and prepared very well so, my girls are ready for the match. We know they are a very good side, but we can match them with our experience. We watched them play, their forward Sanaa Massoudy is very good, and I congratulate her. However, we have quality players that can stop her,” Okere said.AS FAR Club’s tactician Abadallah Haidamou is looking forward to replicating their performance in the first match in which they hammered Nigeria’s Rivers Angels 3-0, with Massoudy scoring all the goals.“We thank God, the first match went very well for us. We’d love to do the same for the next match to grant qualification. We know they want to fight to stay in the tournament, so we’ve prepared to see them playing very strongly. The team plays short passes and, on the ground. We know they play high balls, but we’ll try to keep the ball low because this is how the players are used to play, here in ASFAR and in the national team as well, this is how we do it,” Haidamou said.🇰🇪 @Vihigaqueens were full of excitement on their media day!🤪Take a look at the behind the scenes of it! 🎬#TotalEnergiesCAFWCL | #ItsTimeItsNow pic.twitter.com/QyxIF9Hn3j— #TotalEnergiesCAFWCL (@CAFwomen) November 7, 2021 Despite growing into the game after conceding the goal against Sundowns, Queens failed to find an equalizer though they had some of the best chances in the game, including a last-minute strike by Jentrix Shikangwa that necessitated a fingertip save from Sundown’s custodian.Shikangwa and Maryann Ezenagu Ogochukwu of Rivers Angels had the most goals in the regional qualifiers but none of them managed to find the back of the net in their opening matches.A win for Vihiga Queens in this game will see them open up the group while a win for the Moroccans will see them storm the semis with a game to spare.
