Firat jumps to Bwire’s rescue after howler against Uganda

Harambee Stars custodian Brian Bwire suffered the worst goalkeeping nightmare in the 1-1 stalemate against Uganda but head coach Engin Firat has jumped to his rescue, noting that he was fouled. In the 89th minute, Bwire in a bid to run down the clock opted to dribble the ball towards his goal before pausing to collect the ball but Fahad Bayo’s persistence paid off as he nicked the ball off his hands to score.F.TThe hosts find a narrow escape.Tough one to take for us, but full focus shifts back to our final match against Rwanda at home, on Monday.#UgandaCranes 🇺🇬 1-1 🇰🇪 #HarambeeStars #Tunaweza pic.twitter.com/Hv3WU2VsCv— Harambee Stars (@Harambee__Stars) November 11, 2021 Firat bemoaned the referee’s decision not to award a foul but also tore down on Bwire for dilly-dallying on the ball before attempting to gather the ball. “The last match against Mali very crazy situations and now but all around the world this is a clear foul but still I’m also angry with my goalkeeper because he does not to be relaxed with the ball,”“There is no discussion it’s a clear foul but most of the game we saw only long balls from Uganda, we were controlling the game. I was not happy with the second half, we could have finished the game in the first,” said Firat.Replays however show that Bwire lifted the ball from the ground before Bayo kicked the ball that cannoned off the post before firing it into the net despite Bwire’s efforts to atone for the howler. We’re underway!!#UgandaCranes 🇺🇬 0-0 🇰🇪 #HarambeeStars #Tunaweza pic.twitter.com/IYZjW3ZLHO— Harambee Stars (@Harambee__Stars) November 11, 2021 With a Normalization Committee set up to take charge of football in the country, Firat admitted that the move affects his preparations for the Rwanda clash on Monday.  “It affects everything because this FIFA ban is real, we are all waiting and everyone is concerned about what is happening to Kenyan football and this makes me afraid,” said Firat.
