Stakeholders settle on Nyamweya, Twaha to replace Mwendwa at FKF

Barely a week since the government disbanded Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and formed a caretaker committee to run football activities in the country, succession plans are already underway with former football administrators seeking to regain control of football management in the country.Acouple of weeks ago, sports cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed disbanded the Nick Mwendwa led federation over alleged funds embezzlement. The matter is now being handled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Amina then named a committee chaired by Judge Aaron Ringera to run football activities for the next six months. As the committee hits the ground running, stakeholders, majorly from previous football regimes met in Kakamega on Friday and began to formulate a succession plan with the view of taking over from Mwendwa when the caretaker committee’s mandate comes to an end in April.Cracks within football delegates:Officials torn between Twaha Mbarak and Sam Nyamweya. New flag bearer to be revealed on Wednesday #CitizenWeekend pic.twitter.com/6NQd0ujUTZ— Citizen TV Kenya (@citizentvkenya) November 20, 2021 The stakeholders shortlisted several names for the position of president and in the end, settled on Sam Nyamweya and Twaha Mbarak as the final two candidates for the top job. Nyamweya is a long-serving football administrator who got ousted by Mwendwa in 2016 while Twaha is a former federation vice president.Former Western region National Executive Committee (NEC) member Andrew Amukowa has confirmed that they have shortlisted the two and will meet again to decide who between them will be going for the top job.“We are in agreement with the action of the State to disband FKF and want the purge to extend to the grassroots. What we’ve not agreed on is who should replace Mwendwa between the two gentlemen,” Amukowa is quoted by the Standard.Amukowa added that they are keen on seeking football rise by ending corruption and that the new leadership will ensure that is achieved.“Our greatest problem is corruption in the football governing federation in the country. We need new leadership with integrity that will make sponsors want to associate with our football. The football stakeholders including referees, retired football stars, coaches, and regional and grassroots representatives were keen to see giant sponsors like SuperSport return to the county,” he added.FKF chief at Milimani..But is there hope for Kenyan soccer? As long as FKF/KFF long ago turned into a gravy train, me thinks we’ll continue sinking deeper by day. But just who’s salivating? Sam Nyamweya, Twahir Mbarak etc.Same forest, same hyenas means no hope.
