Why Meja is yet to make his Rangers debut

Title winning left back and dead ball specialist Sammy Meja has attributed his lack of game time at Posta Rangers to his late transfer from Tusker to the club.Meja joined the Stanley Okumbi coached outfit last month after he was deemed surplus to requirement at Tusker but despite his wealth of experience, he is yet to make his Rangers debut at the competitive level.Rangers were active in the transfer market as they strengthened all their departments by acquiring fairly quality players who have fired the club to a positive start of life in the season. The defender has been catching the proceedings from the substitutes bench as Okumbi prefers to play former Gor Mahia left back Michael Apudo who doubles up as the second assistant captain.90’| Goal @tusker_fc Sammy Meja with a great delivery from the Corner Kick finds Asike in the area who heads home to give the brewers the lead.Tusker 2-1 Gor#TuskerVsGor pic.twitter.com/MsSNTD2lJB— FKF Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) July 8, 2021 Meja believes that he would have walked to the starting team had he had proper preparations with Rangers in the brief preseason period granted to clubs before the season kicked off.Although the former Thika United man is glad that the team is reaping positive results on the pitch in his absentia, he is confident of playing part when the competition resumes next weekend. “I joined the team when they had already wrapped their preseason preparations. Coaches rarely make changes to a winning team and that explains why I haven’t played as I found the team doing well. I hope that I will be given the opportunity to make my debut when the league resumes, ” he said.Rangers have successfully beaten relegation in the past seasons but Meja has tipped the club to contest for titles this season after a decent show in the opening six matches.##NAJAVA_MECA_5990918##Rangers have won three out of the six, drawn once and lost twice to sit eighth with ten points, four shy of league leaders Gor Mahia and three outside the top three bracket.”I feel we have a squad that is capable of contesting for titles. The team has for long been fighting to keep its status in the league but the depth can sustain the good results we have in the past matches,” he added.
