Sakaja pledges financial support for AFC Leopards

With AFC Leopards currently cash strapped, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has promised to help the club secure another sponsor and opened up on why the club has struggled in recent years. The Den was rocked on Sunday when head coach Patrick Aussems seemed to hit out on the management for failing to settle dues and revealed that the technical bench and players are enduring a number of challenges.APPRECIATION We would like to extend our gratitude to Hon Musalia Mudavadi for his financial contribution to the club .As a club we say thank you for your support. Thank you so much for standing with the club.RegardsAFC Leopards NEC.#OursForever pic.twitter.com/6TpsYwf3o0— AFC Leopards (@AFCLeopards) November 10, 2021 Sakaja who chairs the standing committee on Labour and Social Welfare in the Senate noted that he is working round the clock to see Ingwe have another sponsor on board. “My focus is on a steady stream of income for AFC Leopards, they need to get a sponsor and that is in the works, I’m trying to help the executive committee to get that,” “Once you manage the team well and there are resources, the work of players will be to only win, you won’t have players coming while stressed and have not paid rent, they don’t have food and have no bus fare it becomes a challenge,” said Sakaja. Ingwe witnessed a mass exodus of players in the offseason transfer window with key players heading out of the exit door, most notably, Elvis Rupia, Robinson Kamura, Austin Odhiambo, Isaac Kipyegon, Harrison Mwendwa and Benjamin Ochan to name but a few.Sakaja revealed that he tried to aid the transfer of Elvis Rupia but the deal failed to materialize then adding that constant changes in the coaching staff and playing unit hurting the club. The technical bench, the staff and the players are facing many challenges (no salaries,no allowances, daily issues…) which prevent the group from working properly. Carelessness of some people?Lack of professionnalism? Hopefully this situation will be fixed as quickly as possible. pic.twitter.com/4sSC21pMZY— Patrick Aussems (@PatrickAussems) November 21, 2021 “There has been a lot of challenge, even a player like Rupia, the first time I tried to get him, he was playing in Kakamega but he was still very young and very difficult to get him, later on, we got him and you see what has happened,”“The big problem has been the high turnover of players and coaches, the team you start with is rarely the team you finish with unless you can get team spirit then you are not doing anything,” added Sakaja.
