Kenya National Amputee Football Team kick off AFCON campaign against Zanzibar

The Kenya National Amputee Football Team will kick start their Africa Cup of Nations for amputee football against Zanzibar on Monday morning from 11AM. The team was slated to play CECAFA region champions Rwanda in the opening match on Saturday but the match did not take place with Rwanda missing out in the opening ceremony.Kenya has been pooled in Group B alongside world champions Angola, Cecafa champions Rwanda, and Zanzibar, perhaps one of the toughest groups in the competition but with Rwanda missing in the picture chances for Kenya sailing through to the knockout stage are high.Despite being in a tough group, the team captain Dalmas Otieno is optimistic that the team can make it into the knockout stages of the tournament, specifically the semis which would see them move closer to making another appearance at the World Cup.The team touched down in Dar Es Salaam on Thursday morning having been facilitated through their residential camp and the travel logistics by the Ministry of Sports. The team is has a blend of both local-based players and their foreign-based counterparts, with all the four players in the foreign legion plying their trade in Turkey. The team is also biased defensively as five out of the 11 outfield players who travelled with the team are defenders while midfielders and strikers share the remaining three slots with three each.Already, one match in Group B has been played with the World Champions Angola thrashing Zanzibar 12-0.Travelling contingentCoach: Emmanuel KaraniGoalkeepers: Manuel Tyras, Vincent MutaiDefenders: Peter Nzioka, Joash Bariti, Nicholus Keiyo, Ignatius Khayumbi, Eugine BatuMidfielders: Dalmas Otieno, Albert Mwakenga, Brian OrokaStrikers: Samuel Kariuk, Daniel Safari, Mohammed Munga
