City sting the Hornets: Bernardo Silva hits a double as the champions storm Vicarage Road

Manchester City will take some stopping this season. Watford may not be a team to really test the reigning champions, but the manner in which Pep Guardiola’s team strolled to another three points on Saturday night bodes well for the Citizens’ chances of retaining the crown.Bernardo Silva is without a doubt City’s top performer this season and he confirmed it with two beautifully taken goals at Vicarage Road.It was Raheem Sterling who opened the scoring early on with a rare header. When you concede a headed goal from one of the shortest players in the league, it’s safe to assume you will not be having a good day at work. And so it proved for Claudio Ranieri’s men.

Since sensationally beating Manchester United and effectively ending Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign at Old Trafford, the Hornets have succumbed to three straight defeats – against Leicester, Chelsea and now against Manchester City. You cannot blame them for their efforts in either of those games – and they made sure they left a good impression tonight despite the loss. Cucho Hernandez scored a consolation goal much to the dismay of goalkeeper Ederson who was keen to record another clean sheet. The Citizens hardly broke a sweat in the second half, however. Their job was long since completed. Another three points are on the board for Guardiola’s mean machine.City have now won seven consecutive games with their form looking ominously like the beginning of a similar run to the 21-game winning streak that started last December and saw them streak towards the title.PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 15SaturdayWest Ham – Chelsea 3-2 (1-2)/Lanzini 40, Bowen 56, Masuaku 87 – Silva 28, Mount 44/Wolverhampton – Liverpool 0-1 (0-0)/Origi 90+5/Newcastle – Burnley 1-0 (1-0)/Wilson 40/Southampton – Brighton 1-1 (1-0)/Broja 29, Maupay 90+8/Watford – Manchester City 1-3 (0-2)/Hernandez 74 – Sterling 4, Silva 31, 63/Sunday17:00: (1.60) Man.Utd.
