Police shoot themselves in the foot in Wazito draw

Wazito FC and Kenya Police FC played out to a one-all draw in an FKF Premier League game played on Saturday afternoon at the Kasarani Annex StadiumThe encounter was the first top-flight game between the two sides and heading into the game, Wazito had lost their last match to Sofapaka while Police had downed Kariobangi Sharks.The opening exchanges were feisty with both teams fighting to take control of the encounter. Wazito opted for slow building from the back while Police went for the long-ball approach.The first big chance of the game went Police’s way in the ninth minute when Clifton Miheso picked Clinton Kinanga in the area, the for ward’s touch was however poor and the ball rolled out for a goal kick. Next was Duke Abuya whose feeble shot was saved by Wazito goalie Bashir Ssekagya. Two minutes later, Ssekagya pulled a wonder finger-tip save to deny Kinanga with the law enforcers now in charge of the encounter.Wazito had to wait until the 23rd minute for their first sniff at Police goal which came through Musa Masika. The midfielder’s attempt from range forced Police keeper Reuben Juma to pull a great save.After containing the early pressure from the visitors Wazito started to attack more. Musa Masika twice came close from set-pieces with one of his free kicks hitting the crossbar. Cliff Nyakeya too had two chances, one of them being on a one vs one situation but he failed to make them count.Against the run of play, Police went ahead through Duke Abuya who found space inside the area and fired past Ssekagya for a halftime lead.Wazito made a change after the interval, taking off Eli Asieche for Kevin Kimani who nearly scored a minute after coming on only for his effort to narrowly miss the target.Police had two chances in quick succession, the first went Abuya’s way in the 52nd minute but Bashir pulled a fantastic one-hand save to deny him. Next was Miheso who rattled the side net from a good position.From a corner delivery, Wazito got the leveler through a Duncan Otieno own goal. Johnstone Omurwa rose high to head a Kimani delivery that came off the Police skipper of the day into the back of the net.The match slowly turned to an end to end affair with both teams attacking in search of a second goal. Wazito came close in the 74th minute but Nyakeya was denied by Juma who pulled a fantastic diving save. Another Wazito chance in the 81st minute was blocked by Otieno who denied Kimani who looked through on goal. Police keeper Juma denied substitute Vincent Oburu three minutes from time on a one on one situation.In the end none of the sides could bag the winner and they picked a point apiece.
