Bayern Munich have tried to negotiate a new deal for their French winger Kingsley Coman at the end of last season, but the talks didn’t result in an agreement. But reports from Germany say that the club has started negotiations again and are likely to accept Coman’s demands of $22 million-per-season salary. Coman’s performances for Julian Nagelsmann’s side have been so good that Bayern directors felt compelled to sit down with Coman and his representatives and try to trash out a new contract before the end of this season. With the Frenchman’s contract expiring in June 2023, it’s probably the last chance for the German giants to close the deal without the risk of another club turning the winger’s head.Wednesday, 20.30: (1.35) Inter (5.50) Torino (9.50)Initially, the Munich club hesitated in offering such a big wage packet to their 25-year-old winger. There is a strict wage structure at the club, one that prevents any player from asking for unreasonable terms. After all, that’s the reason David Alaba has gone to Real Madrid as a free agent. His contract had expired and Bayern simply wouldn’t offer more than $20 million to the Austrian. Now they are a year from entering the so-called “Alaba territory”, the period in which the player can talk to any club willing to break the bank and offer more. So, it’s back to the drawing board and back to the negotiating table.Coman’s replacement would likely cost Bayern a lot more than the difference in wages – around $5 million per year. Is taking that kind of risk wise in the long run? With so many clubs willing to flex their financial muscle and attempt to lure players away from the elite clubs, a re-think of the club’s internal policies may be in order.Contract talks with Kingsley Coman remain tough. Within the club, there are growing fears that they could face the same Alaba scenario with the Frenchman. Defenders Niklas Sule and Benjamin Pavard have also made noises about their discontent. Sule feels underappreciated and is likely to leave the club while Pavard wants to stay – but only if his wages are increased to be in the same grade as the likes of Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, Leroy Sane and the likes. Midfielder Corentin Tolisso is another player who could leave Allianz Arena in the near future.Money talks and Bayern stars are getting more and more talkative.
