Mathare United are currently facing financial challenges that are currently crippling the team’s normal operations. Payment of salary has become an issue and this has resulted in players skipping training sessions while some have opted to stay away altogether.The impact has been felt on the pitch where the team is letting in too many goals with the latest being the 4-1 defeat in the hands of Wazito FC on Sunday at the Utalii Grounds. The outcome pushed the Slum Boys who narrowly avoided the drop last season further towards the undesired red zone.Despite the challenges that are bewildering the team and having to work with 4-5 players sometimes in the training ground, coach Ezekiel Akwana chooses to see the silver lining in what looks like a hopeless situation. He has been in talks with the club executive over the issue and he hopes that things will change soon.“We have to keep working hard on the pitch and off it, we have to motivate them. We have a good team that is just lacking motivation. When we work on that I am confident that normalcy will resume. I have been in talks with the management over the same and they promised that things would change and so we remain positive,” he added.Mathare will play Tusker when the league resumes.
