Women Premier League (WPL) debutants Kangemi Ladies travel to Kisumu where they face Kisumu All Starlets in a first-ever clash for the two sides. Both sides are coming off disappointing performance in the first two rounds of the league, Kangemi receiving a 6-2 baptism by fire welcome to the league in the hands of Ulinzi Starlets before going down 1-3 to Trans Nzoia Falcons. Kisumu, on their part, lost their opening match 0-6 to league runners up Gaspo Women at home and suffered a 5-2 defeat to Zetech Sparks in the second round. “We are chasing a first win and I am confident the players will fight for maximum points. Since the first match, there has been massive improvement in our performance and our last match can attest to that. The team us gelling well and ahead of the away match, we intensified our training and it is working to bring the players to be competitive in the top tier. Most of our players have not featured in the top league or the division one and some have no league experience whatsoever, coming straight from school,” offered Kangemi coach Turncliff Asiebella. 2.05 PSG 3.60 Real Madrid 3.80The tactician believes lack of endurance was their main undoing in the last two matches. But with the kind of training the side has had ahead of their mid-week clash with Kisumu, he remains confident they will hold their own away from home.”Against Ulinzi we trailed 1-2 at half time then crumbled in the second half. A much improved performance against Trans Nzoia saw us lead 1-0 at half time but second half lapses, again, led to us conceding three goals from the 75th minute. That is a telling trend of our endurance and we emphasised on that in training and hopefully, the players will do well against Kisumu,” coach added. While Kangemi have conceded nine goals in two games and scored three, Kisumu have conceded 11 and scored two, a statistic Asiebella feels is favouring his side. “Our midfield is our strongest asset as at now but we will have to be on toes in defence as Kisumu have good wingers and attack a lot from the flanks. Although it is unfamiliar territory for us being our first match against the side, I have done my homework and know what to expect from them. The match will call for a different approach from that used in the last two but we are ready,” the coach concluded.
