Gaspo back to winning ways as Vihiga continue unbeaten run

Women Premier League (WPL) title hopefuls Gaspo Women picked a hard-fought 3-2 victory away to Zetech Sparks in a league match played at GEMS Cambridge grounds on Sunday 9 January. Heading to the match, both sides were coming off losses and needed the points to better their chances of fighting for the 12-team league title. Gaspo had fallen to nemesis Thika Queens on Wednesday in a mid-week match while Zetech fell 1-0 to Kayole Starlet on Tuesday, in a match the varsity side had dominated but failed to utilise their chances. Bertha Omitta opened the scoring for the WPL league runners up in the fifth minute to give Gaspo the lead early on. Zetech came close to equalising in the 16th minute as Elizabeth Kisa sent a powerful shot towards goal by Gaspo’s Vivian Akinyi was in place to save the day for the visitors. FT: @Zetechsparks 2-3 @gaspow_fc The hosts put up a solid fight but just could snatch a point from the encounter. #FKFWPL pic.twitter.com/VWMgHKgLqC— FKF Caretaker – Women (@fkfcc_women) January 9, 2022 Six minutes later Gaspo got a chance to double their advantage after winger Elizabeth Wambui was brought down in the box with the whistle-blower pointing to the penalty box.
