Okola revels at Sofapaka’s backline performance

Sofapaka defender Stephen Okola has expressed his delight at the team’s compact nature at the back this season as opposed to their showing the previous season.Last season, Batoto Ba Mungu conceded 37 goals in 32 matches, averaging slightly over a goal per match while they have only conceded nine goals in the 12 matches that they have played this season, less than a goal per match on average.Only Western Stima, Vihiga United, Mathare United, and Nzoia Sugar got the ball out of the net more times than the Ken Odhiambo side, doing so 58, 47,47, and 38 times respectively.88 GOOALStephen Okola heads in from Kingatua’s deliverySofapaka 1-2 KCB pic.twitter.com/XoHH29zUmm— Sofapaka FC (@FC_Sofapaka) October 24, 2021 Following the performance so far, Okola is hopeful that they can maintain the same display and accumulate more clean sheets while at it as they roll towards the second half of the season.“It has been a good improvement for us at the back this season because of being compact and doing the necessary at the back. Personally, I am pleased with the defense line going into the second phase of the league having conceded nine goals as compared to last season where we soaked in a lot of goals. I hope we keep the momentum and get more clean sheets too,” he told the club’s portal. The defender also reveled at the way Sofapaka have managed to turn around their season after a very torrid start and is optimistic of a good finish by the end of the season to better the previous season’s 12th-place finish.“We started not so well but am glad we kept our heads together and worked our way out of the situation. Going by the recent run of good results I am optimistic we shall have a good season and more importantly finish in a better place compared to last season,” he added.35 SaveStephen Okola rises high to head out Felly Mulumba’s goal bound headerSofapaka 0-0 Bandari— Sofapaka FC (@FC_Sofapaka) January 4, 2022 He has been a key player for the 2009 champions this season and has attributed the side’s performance recently to the teamwork and unity at the club.“Our season has been splendid compared to last season largely due to team cohesion and togetherness. We maintained our first team from last season and added quality players into the squad. I believe it is because of having a better understanding of each other that has been key to our good performance,” he finished.
