Coach Joshua Sakwa says top of his side’s, Kayole Starlets, target this season is to survive relegation while rebuilding for next season. The Women Premier League (WPL) side lost almost all their first team players in the lead up to the 2021/22 season and were forced to make new signings yo add to the players they promoted from their junior team. In case you missed this match, you have @soccerpower99 to thank for the highlights. And oh my, @Jentyshikanwa’s thunderbolt will sure brighten your afternoon. At the beginning of the league we struggled with fitness but that is changing with each match. We are in a good place. The only undoing is lack of experience. The players cave at the mention of the big teams and the results of the last five matches show,” said Sakwa. He continued, “We are trying our best to keep talking to them for motivation. However, the more they meet these teams the more they will realise that they can hold their own. I believe this is a first leg problem and the repeat leg will be better.”Kayole picked their first victory in a 1-0 outcome against hard-fighting Zetech before dispensing winless Kangemi 3-1. So far, the side has scored six goals while conceding 14 and are seventh on the 12-team log. “We know we still have a tough test against teams like Ulinzi Starlets, Trans Nzoia Falcons and Wadadia. Not to put any pressure on the players, we have allowed the first leg to be used entirely to read the game and the teams as our players gain the experience. Before the second leg begins, we will sit and have targets for the season other than not being relegated,” added Sakwa. While table toppers @Vihigaqueens enjoy maximum points after five rounds, newbies Kangemi Ladies are yet to earn a point.#FKFWPL pic.twitter.com/ml3Ch6oxbz— FKF Caretaker – Women (@fkfcc_women) January 17, 2022 The tactician has further called for more support for the women’s game and for Kayole specifically. “While we are grateful for the help from the Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee, the team still needs more financial help. The expenses of hiring playing grounds, ambulance, security has fallen back to teams and as I on cue, some of these have been tripled in price as service providers think teams have money,” Sakwa opened up.
