Less than a year ago, Serie A’s cheapest squad pulled off one of the shocks of the season with their 2-0 win over title contenders, the great Milan. Last season, that defeat is widely regarded as the breaking point in Milan’s quest for the title. A year on, Spezia came back to haunt them again – Spezia beat Milan 2-1 at San Siro after a frantic ending to the game! For a long time, it didn’t seem right for the Rossoneri. Despite their fine run of late, the game at San Siro was full of red flags for Stefano Pioli’s team. After spending most of the game on the front foot, Milan’s best chance to score came from a penalty just before the break. Captain Theo Hernandez placed the ball on the spot and fired wide of the target. It started to look like one of those days.It looked like the first half was going to end goalless, Portuguese speedster Rafael Leao arrived with a lovely chip over Spezia goalie Ivan Provedel to give his title-chasing side a deserved lead. But not everything went according to plan for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his young teammates. Despite their attempts to extend the lead, it was the visitors who struck against the run of play. Managed by Thiago Motta, former player of Milan’s biggest rivals Inter, Spezia scored after a brisk counter-attack.Was it all happening again? Is lowly Spezia going to hamper Milan’s title bid? Surely not! They’ve matured and learnt so much in the meantime… right?Olivier Giroud and Ante Rebic came on as Pioli searched for a win, but it was Zlatan who came close with a turn and shot from the centre of the box. The hosts might have felt unlucky at that point but it was going to get a lot worse. With Rossoneri pushing forward, Rebic rolled the ball forward to Junior Messias who put the ball into the net. The goal should have stood but referee Marco Serra blew for a foul on Rebic in the build-up. Instead of getting the winner, all Milan got was a free-kick. And if you thought that’s the worse it would get for Milan, you’d be wrong. It was going to get a whole lot worse in the dying seconds. After a mistake from Piere Kalulu, a sudden chance came to Emmanuel Gyasi who squeezed the ball past Mike Maignan and gave the visitors their first-ever victory in Milan. To say the hosts were angry and frustrated would be an understatement. The game ended with Spezia celebrating a famous 2-1 win.Another season, another Spezia-shaped heartbreak for the Rossoneri. In the meantime, Napoli secured a cool victory at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in Bologna tranks to two well-timed strikes from Mexico international Hirving Lozano. Nigerian international forward Victor Osimhen returned from injury and had a golden chance to mark his return with a goal late on.SERIE A – ROUND 22SaturdaySampdoria – Torino 1-2 (1-1)/Caputo 18 – Singo 27, Praet 67/Salernitana – Lazio 0-3 (0-2)/Immobile 7, 10, Lazzari 66/Juventus – Udinese 2-0 (1-0)/Dybala 19, McKennie 79/SundaySassuolo – Verona 2-4 (0-2)/Scamacca 54, Defrel 67 – Caprari 37, Barak 44, 57 pen, 90+4/Venezia – Empoli 1-1 (0-1)/Okereke 73 – Zurkowski 26/Roma – Cagliari 1-0 (1-0)/Oliveira 33 pen/Atalanta – Inter 0-0MondayBologna – Napoli 0-2 (0-1)/Lozano 20, 47/Milan – Spezia 1-2 (1-0)/Leao 45+2 – Agudelo 64, Gyasi 60+5/22:45: (1.40) Fiorentina (4.90) Genoa (9.00)***odds are subject to change
