Xavier on what Mathare United need to survive relegation

Alarm bells are ringing for Mathare United but their interim coach Francis Xavier has revealed that the team only needs confidence and improve their attack and defence to beat the drop. The Slum Boys are fighting at the wrong end of the table and are nine points from safety having survived relegation last season by the skin of their teeth. 🔢 | Stat of the Day! Today will be Francis Xavier’s first game in the Premier League assuming the role of head coach and rather fittingly he gets to pop his cherry against a team he spent 10 years with as a player.#MathareVsLeopards pic.twitter.com/xh2S54R3fV— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) January 23, 2022 Xavier was however confident that the team can beat the drop should their work on the players motivation as they sometimes go a week without training due to financial struggles. “When someone is trusted with the job you just have to make sure the team survives relegation because we only have to work on the morale of the players and we will be good. Sometimes I see the frustration in players because we fail to train for almost a week unlike other teams but one thing I’m sure of is that we cannot be relegated,” said Xavier. ##EDITORS_CHOICE##The former AFC Leopards midfielder took over the reins on an interim basis from Ezekiel Akwana who walked out on the club citing financial constraints that affected the performances of the club. Xavier was confident the 2008 Premier League champions have the right squad to beat the drop and improving their attack and defence could see them remain in the league. 🚨 Club Statement on Ezekiel Akwana Read: https://t.co/nEN5ONIl2V#GreatnessWithin pic.twitter.com/5XGBcA5r8L— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) January 21, 2022 “The players that we have are capable of making the team stay in the league, we can only be scared of relegation if we lose players. We also have to work on scoring goals and also maintaining our leads because in the last four games we have been scoring first but end up losing the game,” added Xavier.
