STARS ABROAD: Frustrating day in office for Okumu as Gent falls again

Kenyan international Joseph Okumu had a frustrating day in office as his side KAA Gent went down fighting 1-0 to Royal Antwerp at the Ghelamco Arena in Belgium. Gent who were seeking to end their five-game winless run fell again when Nigerian import Alhassan Abdullahi kissed the back of their net in the 16th minute. Abdullahi was put through by former Inter Milan midfielder Radja Nainggolan. Save from watching the visitors pick the three points, Okumu who clocked full time was cautioned in the dying seconds of the match that saw the Tanzania national team captain Mbwana Samatta also play the whole minutes. FT 0-1 | Zeer zure nederlaag, hier zat zoveel meer in…#COBW #gntant #jpl pic.twitter.com/kMKTL8FSRB— KAA Gent (@KAAGent) January 30, 2022 While Okumu’s Gent was on the receiving end of Antwerp’s wrath, his compatriot Eric Johana was not considered for his debut when Waasland Beveren narrowly beat Westerlo 2-1 in the Belgian second tier.📌 Lees hier het wedstrijdverslag van de wedstrijd tegen Waasland-Beveren 💛💙👉 https://t.co/Oj40SAUIJP📌 Read the match report of the game against Waasland-Beveren here 💛💙👉 https://t.co/dB6jjQbg8V— KVC Westerlo (@KVCWesterlo) January 30, 2022 Johana joined the club last week after failing to secure contract extension at Jonkopings Sodra, a Swedish second tier outfit that he joined back in 2020.Beveren took the lead in the 29th minute through Leonardo Bertone and would double their advantage in the 61st minute through Daniel Maderner.Westerlo grabbed the consolation goal through Lukas Van Enoo in the 74th minute but could not find the equalizer thanks to the watertight defence mounted by the hosts.
