Dembele’s goal seals the win as Lyon come from behind to defeat Marseille

Maybe it would be better for Marseille if the game against Lyon wasn’t suspended on November 14th, when their captain Dimitri Payet was hit with the bottle. Maybe they would be able to win against a tough opponent, but we’ll never know. They played a rematch and lost even thou they had all the opportunities in the world to go home with 3 points: Lyon had a number of absentees due to injuries and international duties (AFCON), Lyon was trailing since the 10th minute and Lyon had no support from the home crowd. Still, Marseille took things for granted and weren’t concentrated enough to secure the game with at least one more goal, so in the end, they were punished by the hosts, or Moussa Dembele to be precise. Lyon’s forward was not fit to play the entire game, but apparently 25 minutes was enough to change the game and win it: Lyon – Marseille 2-1.The first half was, to say it clearly – boring. With only 3 degrees and with constant rain for all 90 minutes, it was maybe too much to expect some sort of spark from the players, especially since there was no crowd at the stadium. Statistics can sometimes be deceiving, but tonight they clearly told the story about the first 45 minutes: 0 shots on target for Lyon, 1 shot for Marseille. The visitors used their only shot on target to actually score, but even that goal was a combination of defensive blunder and a bit of luck that anything else. After a corner in the 10th minute, Arsenal’s on loan midfielder Matteo Guendouzi used the opportunity and took a swing with his head between two Lyon players. He never looked at the goal or aimed, actually he was turned away from the goal, but that half shot was enough to trick the keeper: 0-1.⚽️ Corner de @DimPayet17 👑 et tête de @MatteoGuendouzi qui ouvre le score à Lyon ! 💥#OLOM | #TeamOM 🔵⚪️pic.twitter.com/HHolTkHGhu— #TeamOM Officiel (@TeamOM_Officiel) February 1, 2022 Lyon dominated the rest of the first half, but actually did nothing, apart from circling around Marseille’s goal, with no success. The same thing happened for most of the second half, and the guests used the opportunity to hit Lyon on the counter attack, but Under didn’t used a great chance in the  minute to secure the game. Coach Bosh had no other alternative but to introduce not 100% fit Moussa Dembele, and Lyon forward changed the game. He had only two half-chances, but everybody around him got better, and suddenly keeper Lopez had to save his teammates. He did it twice, but in the end, he conceded a header from one of the shortest men on the field – Shaquiri. Lyon continued to attack and Marseille were suddenly not so firm in defense. In fact, they made another mistake, this time in the 89th minute, and Dembele got his chance and he used it: 2-1 for the win and the seventh place in Ligue 1.📹 Le but de Xherdan Shaqiri qui climatise la #TeamOM : #OLOM #TeamOL #Ligue1 #Shaqiri pic.twitter.com/zazXdc4hYi— Dynamit’Sports (@DynamitSports) February 1, 2022 De l’appel de balle à la finition d’une justesse.. en passant par le contrôle porte-manteau dos au but..
