Talanta eyeing a league double over Mathare United

FC Talanta will be hoping to complete a league double over Mathare United when the two sides face off in Round 17 of the FKF Premier League at the Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday. The Ken Kenyatta-coached side emerged victorious in the first-ever encounter between the two sides in the league when they played in December, winning 2-0 courtesy of a Barrack Odhiambo brace. In their maiden season in the league, Talanta have punched beyond their weight and are currently seventh on the log with 24 points. The leading club scorer in the campaign Francis Kahiro is hopeful that they can continue their good run when they come up against Mathare, with a double over them on the cards.”We are focused and we want to go for all three points. In the first leg, we beat them and we would like to do the same and collect 6 points from them for the season. Our run in the season has been good and we want to build on the draw last outing and make it a win. Although they have made some changes, we will not drop our guard and we will fight as hard as we can,” Kahiro told Mozzart Sport.Mathare, on the other hand, have had the best of their bad days and are languishing deep in the relegation zone toed on points with bottom-placed Vihiga Bullets on seven points. The Slum Boys effected a change at the helm of the technical bench as Ezekiel Akwana resigned and former Wazito FC assistant coach John Kamau was appointed in his place.Kamau, a former Talanta boss himself, is confident that they can string results to lift off the relegation zone.“I am really happy with the reception from everyone and more especially by the players who have shown the right attitude. It is encouraging to see all report for training which gives me the opportunity to assess them all and see how I can use them to turn the club’s fortunes around. We are in dire need of points and if we embrace team work we will get off the red zone. I am equal to the task and if it were not so, I wouldn’t have taken up the job. We will fight until the final round,” Kamau said.🗣️ | “Ball ni rahisi na ni ngumu pia, we mwenyewe ndio unaeza amua vile unataka ikuwe kwako” ~ Arnold Origi (February 3 2022) Look at who came through today at training 😊😇#KenyaOne #GreatnessWithin pic.twitter.com/rcAWPXWzD6— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) February 3, 2022 Mathare are on a 12 match winless streak, losing eight on the trot, having recorded their last win in October against Nzoia Sugar as they beat them 2-1.On their part, Talanta will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways after staging a strong comeback against Nzoia Sugar in their last match at Ruaraka Grounds to salvage a point playing to a two-all draw having gone done 2-0 at halftime.
