Kamau turns attention to youngsters in desperate bid to rescue Mathare

Newly appointed Mathare United head coach John Kamau has promised to give youngsters at the club a starring role during his tenure despite the fact that the 2008 Kenya Premier League champions are currently in a battle to save themselves from the looming threat of relegation.Having been appointed at the club on 31 January 2022 upon the resignation of Ezekiel Akwana, Kamau inherited a squad that currently sit second last on the log table having managed a paltry seven points after sixteen games played.Sacked Wazito assistant coach John Kamau appointed new Mathare United bossWith nine points in between the club and the safety places, and eighteen games left till the end of the season, the former KCB and Posta Rangers boss, who was recently sacked from his assistant coach post at Wazito alongside head coach Francis Kimanzi, revealed that he would strive to make youngsters the face of the club as he intends to give them an opportunity to showcase their skills.“I am mostly known for my work with young players and here I can get back to doing that. We must not allow this club to suffer the same fate as Thika United which was also a safe haven for the young upcoming footballers,” the head coach is quoted on the club’s portal.Since the takeover, Kamau is set for his first assignment at the club against newbies FC Talanta who are in eighth position, seventeen points ahead of them.During his unveiling at the club, the former Harambee Stars U20 national coach also remained optimistic that he could turn around the club’s fortunes for a second season running after former boss Frank Ouna pulled the rabbit out of the hat last season to help the team narrowly evade the chop.“I am excited to be joining this great club. It might not seem so with how the season is going at the moment but I am confident that we can restore the pride of Mathare United,” the coach said.
