FKF Caretaker League and Competitions sub-Committee Chairman Ali Amour has confirmed that the FKF Cup will not be played this year meaning Kenya will not have a representative at next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.Over the years, the FKF Cup winner has been representing the country at the CAF Confederation Cup. This year Gor Mahia featured in the competition after downing AFC Leopards in last year’s final. They however exited the competition in the second round. There were fears that the Cup would not be held this year following the dissolution of FKF by the Ministry of Sports and the installation of a Caretaker Committee to run football affairs for the next six months before elections are held a new office elected into office. The FKF Cup was set to start last week but no word came through from the Caretaker Committee and now Amour has all but confirmed that the competition will not be held in an interview with the Daily Nation.Good morning. Another 24 hours of FKF Caretaker Committee to spend their day in office while we don’t see any progress. No live matchesStartimes deal collapsedNo signs of new sponsorsNo sign of Starlets playingNo sign of KPL winner participating in CAF gamesNo FKF Cup— Nyenjeri (@Thegoodbeings) February 4, 2022 “We have a lot of mess to clean out and the question to ask is, do we want to play the Cup or put the system in place?” he posed. For Amour, lack of a Cup sponsor is one of the reasons why the Cup will not be held but did not rule out the staging of the competition should a sponsor pump money.“For us (FKF Caretaker Committee), we are focusing on putting the system in place and working within our mandate. Clubs do not have money…If a sponsor wants to come and sponsor the competition, well and good but for us, we do not want to touch it (the competition),” he added.Kenya’s participation in next year’s CAF Champions League is also a doubt with the legitimacy of the caretaker committee still a subject of discussion.
