Nzoia Sugar beef up central defence with ex Sony ace

Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Nzoia Sugar have beefed up their central defence following the acquisition of Salim Odeka from National Super League outfit Kisumu All Stars.The defender joined the sugar millers in the final days of the mid-season transfer window where he will reunite with his immediate former coach Salim Babu who had ditched All Stars for Nzoia’s sweet sugar weeks earlier.Nzoia turned to the services of the former Sony Sugar coach after Ibrahim Shikanda resigned under unclear circumstances.The burly defender who had been out of top flight football for close to a year since leaving Posta Rangers in February last year penned a season-long deal with Nzoia.Odeka who boasts of wealth of top flight experience having featured for the defunct duo of Western Stima and Sony Sugar previously.The centre back who turned down offers from Vihiga Bullets and Kenya Police who were interested in his services late last year.The defender will face off with the trio of Randy Bakari,Ian Karani and Emmanuel Esekon for playing time at Nzoia.Prior to the unveiling of the hard man, Nzoia had raided Rangers for the signature of Alfred Emoni who had also worked under Babu at All Stars.Why Salim Hamisi nearly quit football last monthThe national U23 forward was named the second tier’s best young player last season, a feat that saw Rangers lure him to join them.He however left the mailmen without earning his league debut thanks to the competition at the club and his lack of experience at the top level.
