Two minutes later, the former Posta Rangers man had to be on top of his game to bar Michael Isabwa from kissing the back of the net and would further rise to make a finger tip save from the winger in the tenth minute. Omondi could however not prevent Mwamba from giving Homeboyz the lead in the 13th minute as the Congolese import stretched to tap in a pin point cross from David Okoth. A poor clearance by the Mathare defence in the 17th minute saw Stephen Opoku double the lead for Homeboyz as the ball fell on his path just few inches into the area and the Ghanaian made no mistake in sending the ball to the roof of the net. Sensing the possibility of Homeboyz running riot, Mathare stepped up and began eating into the visitors dominance and at the same time, defended as a unit an approach that worked well for them. Eugene Wethuli gave Mathare something to smile about seconds to the half time whistle as he stretched to poke home the ball past Godfrey Oputi after Clifford Alwanga had headed the ball on his way. Second halfMathare picked from where they left in the first half as they handled the pressure from Homeboyz well and even managed to test Oputi on a number of occasions. Their quest for the equalizer suffered a blow when Danson Kago went down unchallenged in the 54th minute and would be subbed off for Musa Saidi a minute later. Mwamba thought that he had given Homeboyz the third goal in the 59th minute after tapping in a cross from the lively Odhiambo but the offside flag came to the rescue of Mathare. Having stabilised, Kamau made double changes in the 68th bringing in Khalid Jumaan and debutant Donald Ange for Alphonse Ndonye and the weary Wethuli. Earlier on, Alwanga had come off for another new boy in Dennis Monda. In a change aimed at containing the pressure from Mathare, Mwalala introduced centre-back Brian Eshihanda for Isabwa towards the end of the game. A minute later, Collins Odhiambo put the results beyond the reach of Mathare after capitalizing on a mistake at the back.
