Nzoia Sugar creative midfielder Joseph Mwangi is glad to have broken the season’s duck after finding the back of the net in their 1-1 draw against pre-match favourites Nairobi City Stars last Sunday. Mwangi scored late in the game to salvage a point for the sugar millers who are yet to lose under Salim Babu who was recently appointed to fill in the gap left by Ibrahim Shikanda who resigned early this year. The midfielder who is over the moon for scoring his first goal of the season said lady luck visited him at a time when he wanted to impress the new boss and help the club get off the red zone.Joseph Mwangi ameupiga mwingi sana leo pale Utalii. I am happy I got it at long last after working hard in the past rounds and failing to put the ball in the net. I had all the reasons to celebrate it as it came against a tough opponent and got us a point as well,” he said.Six years later, Mwangi is living his FKFPL dream at Nzoia Sugar FCHaving scored his first, Mwangi said there was still time to reach the ten goal mark before the season ends. The youngster who believes that he has the potential to muscle for the ‘Golden Boot’ in the future said the goal would lay a solid foundation for him to catch up with the best scorers in the league including his teammate Levis Okello who is nearing double digits.Okello who pulled out of retrement to join the sugarmen last year is among the few forwards in the league who have managed an hat-trick this season.”We still have more than ten rounds remaining in the season. Those matches are enough for me to score more than nine goals. I just need to be clinical upfront and work harder. The club will also benefit a lot if we will have different goal scorers finding the back of the net consistently,” he said.
