This could be the end for bad boy Pepe

Pepe has rightfully earned his reputation of being a bad boy of Portuguese football. The former Real Madrid defender is still producing some magnificent performances for Porto and his national team, but the old problem remains – he loses his head far too easily. The latest outburst at the end of the Liga Portugal derby against Sporting Clube de Portugal could spell the end of his career.Fists were flying in the Portuguese derbyAfter the bad-tempered ending to the game last weekend, Pepe was shown the red card for his “unsportsmanlike behaviour” i. e. a physical attack on Sporting’s director Hugo Viana. That moment of madness is likely to cost the defender a suspension that could last anywhere between two months and two years. Should the Portuguese football league authorities decide to make an example of the much-decorated central defender, he might as well hang up his boots because he could be 41 years old by the time his suspension is over.Five minutes of ABSOLUTE CHAOS to end a thriller between Porto and Sporting 🤯😳Pepe received one of three red cards shown after the final whistle, as carnage broke out between both sets of players and staff. The Dragons extend their unbeaten run to 50 matches! 🔵👏 pic.twitter.com/i0F2Dmf1Dh— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) February 11, 2022 But Pepe isn’t the only one who is likely to regret their involvement in the brawl that couldn’t be stopped for a fair few minutes on the Dragao pitch.Porto are currently six points clear of Sporting at the top of the Primeira Liga. Benfica, Portugal’s biggest club traditionally, are four points behind Sporting in third.
