Weight off Senegalese shoulders: Sarr was crying tears of joy after the AFCON triumph

Ismaila Sarr did great to recover from his serious injury in time for the deciding AFCON matches in Cameroon. The Senegal winger was in the news for the wrong reasons in the weeks running up to the tournament he was in the middle of a tug-of-war between Watford and the Cameroon Football Association over his availability and the English club’s willingness to let him team up with the Lions of Teranga. After the 2019 defeat in the final against Algeria and the quarter-final exit to Cameroon two years previously, the time has finally come to celebrate.A great reception today for Ismaïla Sarr, who returned 12 weeks after sustaining a serious knee injury in November. 👏🇸🇳 @izosarr 🇸🇳 pic.twitter.com/DrLxyjUaif— Watford Football Club (@WatfordFC) February 12, 2022 Speaking to Watford’s website, the 23-year-old winger said that he cried in 2019 and 2017.”That’s my third African Cup. On the first one we got knocked out by Cameroon and I remember crying because it hurt so much. The second one we got eliminated in the final against Algeria and again I can remember how much it hurt, and I cried again. But this time in the final I must say I cried because of the happiness because we finally won.”##EDITORS_CHOICE##Senegal’s first Africa Cup of Nations title brought unimaginable joy to the people. The celebrations in the streets after the penalty shoot-out win over Egypt in Yaounde won’t be forgotten anytime soon.”The whole country went on to the streets to celebrate with us, it was a lot of people. We were very happy, but when we went back to Senegal and saw everyone, we were even happier. We saw how much it meant to everyone.”“I cried with happiness!” 😭🇸🇳 Ismaïla Sarr spoke to us about his historic #AFCON2021 triumph with #TeamSenegal and just how much it means!— Watford Football Club (@WatfordFC) February 17, 2022 But the joy of tasting glory with the national side was quickly substituted by the gut-turning relegation fight in the Premier League. Watford are currently second-bottom in the table and will have to start producing results if they want to avoid dropping down to the Championship. However, Sarr is keeping a positive outlook.”I am always happy when I come back here, because this is my club, and this is my home. I live here and for me, this is home. It’s very important that everyone comes together now and we all need to fight together. From the players to the manager, the staff and the board, we need to get together to try and get out of this situation. We need to work hard, but not tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, we need to do it from now.”PREMIER LEAGUE – Round 26Saturday15.30: (1.70) West Ham (3.70) Newcastle (5.20)18.00: (1.70) Brighton (3.50) Burnley (5.60)18.00: (1.65) Aston Villa (3.70) Watford (5.70)18.00: (1.12) Liverpool (10.0) Norwich (17.0)18.00: (1.45) Arsenal (4.20) Brentford (8.00)18.00: (5.40) Crystal Palace (3.70) Chelsea (1.67)18.00: (2.20) Southampton (3.40) Everton (3.30)20.30: (1.32) Man.City (5.30) Tottenham (9.50)Sunday17.00: (4.30) Leeds (3.60) Man.Utd.
