Oburu off to a flying start in Zambia

Kenyan international Vincent Oburu was on target in his debut for Zesco United as the Ndola-based side saw off rivals Nkana FC 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to close in on the leading pack. The former Wazito FC player put up a man-of-the-match performance and was involved in both goals for Zesco, scoring one and setting up the other to see Zesco bag all three points.Oburu opened the scoring after just 21 minutes with a thunderous shot that went between the legs of the goalkeeper after seeing off his markers on the left side of the attack. The visitors restored parity three minutes later through David Obashi after the referee adjudged Clement Mwape to have handled the ball in the area, awarding a penalty in the process.Obashi stepped up to take the kick and did so with power, with the ball finding the net despite Ian Otieno having a touch at it to see the two teams head into the break level.@KansanshiF 3-2 @KafueCelticFCJesse Were 3’, Bruce Musakanya 27’, Timothy Sakala 75’ | Albert Kangwanda 67’, Maxwell Mulutala 90’@Nkwazifc 0-1 @BuildconFc Lubinda Mundia 63’ @ZescoUnitedFC 2-1 @FcNkanaVincent Oburu 21’, John Ching’andu 55’ | David Obashi (P) 23’— FAZ (@FAZFootball) February 19, 2022 Captaining the side, John Ching’adu led by example as he struck home the second goal and the match-winner for Zesco after just seven minutes into the second half, being set up by Oburu for the winner.Otieno was also instrumental for Zesco more so in the second half, denying the opponents a couple of times to protect the lead for Zesco. The left-forward terminated his contract with FKFPL-side Wazito FC before heading out silently to Zambia to try out with Zesco who had an additional slot for a foreigner and needed a striker after parting ways with Jesse Were, confirming his signature in the mid-season window.Half Time Zesco 1-1 NkanaVincent Oburu 21’/ David Obashi 25′ pic.twitter.com/IQ2HolEvbG— Nkana FC (@FcNkana) February 19, 2022 His compatriot Jesse Were was also on target as Kansashi Dynamos won the third match in a row for the first time this season, beating Kafue Celtic 3-2.Were opened the scoring after just three minutes with Bruce Musakanya doubling the advantage 24 minutes later to see the hosts go into the break with a 2-0 lead.Kafue Celtic pulled one back shortly after the hour mark but Timothy Sakala scored the third to restore the two-goal lead before the visitors found the net again in the second minute of stoppage time.
