Ulinzi Stars defender revels in Premier League debut

Ulinzi Stars defender Peter Glen Wafula is delighted after making his debut for the Soldiers in the barren draw against defending champions Tusker at ASK Grounds, Nakuru last week. The off-season acquisition came on in the 24th minute to replace the injured Kevin Ouma and went on to feature for the entire part of the match helping his team hold the Brewers and keep a clean sheet in the process. This was the first time that the defender was featuring in a top-flight match, and he revels at the feeling he had when he stepped on the field.”I am thankful to God and the entire team, that is the technical bench and the players, for the support in the build-up to all that. I have been working for this since I joined the team. The moment I stepped on the field I felt encouraging words coming from every corner and it made me feel I was in the right place. It gave me a sense of belonging,” Wafula told the club’s media.Following his debut, the ball-playing defender is hoping that he will have more chances to help the side lift-off from their position on the log at the moment by the end of the season.Further, Wafula sang praises of his teammates for helping him settle in the match quickly, crediting the clean sheet he was part of in his first match to excellent teamwork from the entire backline.”I want to help the team ease off the pressure when I get the chance. Getting a clean sheet on my debut gives me a very good feeling. It was a product of teamwork from the entire backline starting with the goalkeeper. Communication from everyone was top-notch,” he added. His competitors at center back, Kevin Ouma and Bonaventure Muchika, have formed a formidable partnership in the heart of Ulinzi Stars backline this season, being the preferred pair in all matches but it remains to be seen whether he will drop back to the bench with the recovery of Kevin Ouma or he will keep his place in the next match.
