After Gor Mahia head coach Andreas Spier petitioned Benson Omala to return to the team, the forward has heeded to the German’s call as he is back in training.Omala ghosted the club shortly after their 2-0 loss to Nairobi City Stars in December last year and has gone on to miss the last seven matches in which the club managed to score eight goals. It is believed that misunderstanding between the player and unnamed members of the technical bench saw him abscond duty since the turn of the calendar. However, Omala has now softened his stance barely days after Spier who was appointed at the start of the month made the appeal as he has been training with the team for the last two days according to the club’s team manager Jolawi Obondo. “He is back in the team after some weeks out. He marked his return with an hat-trick in a friendly match we played on Wednesday,” confirmed the long serving team manager. Gor Mahia want missing striker back in the teamGor turned to the services of the former Football Kenya Federation Sporting Director after firing Mark Harrison alongside his assistant Sammy Omollo and Jerim Onyango who served as the goalkeepers’ trainer. The former Western Stima player also confirmed his return to the team and promised to bang goals for fun in the remainder of the season.”I am back to the team and hopefully, I will be granted some minutes this weekend. I regard what has happened in the past weeks as water under the bridge. Instead, I will focus on helping the team and grasping what the coach wants from me,” he said.Asked on his fitness levels considering that he was out for a while, the Harambee Stars trialist said he had been training with his boyhood club Manyatta United back in Kisumu and hence was fit to play in league matches.Omala who has featured for both the national U20 and the U23 teams joined Gor in June 2020 and had a brief stint with Swedish side Linkoping City last year.
