Action in the Women Premier League (WPL) continued on Sunday with five matches on the cards. Three-time champions Vihiga Queens continued their dominance in the league, hosting Bunyore Starlets at Mumias Complex in a first league meeting where they went on to win 4-0.Topister Situma was the star of the match as she grabbed a hattrick with Phelistus Kadari scoring one for the win that takes the leaders to 25 points from matches. The match headed for the break with the hosts holding the advantage and Bunyore having fought hard to deny them a third in the first half. On resumption, Bunyore held their own for the next 41 minutes and the match looked headed for a 2-0 win but Situma had other ideas. She added two in span of three minutes to put the match to bed and hand her side the massive win against the debutants. Elsewhere, a mid-table clash between Super Cup and Women’s Cup champions Ulinzi Starlets against varsity side Zetech Sparks ended in a two all deaw at the Ruaraka Grounds. Ulinzi, fifth on the log at 15 points coming into the match needed a win to join the top contenders while Sparks were looking to surpass the soldiers from 13 to 16 points. However, both sides shared the spoils in a match littered with missed chances. Lydia Akoth opened the scoring for Sparks in the 18th minute with a well-taken shot, outside the box, that caught the Ulinzi defense napping for the opener. Sheril Angachi got a chance to level the score from a fast break a minute later but, one-on-one with the Sparks’ shot stopper Stellar Ahono, she over-dribbled and despite beating the keeper could mot control for an easy slotting in as the ball rolled off the pitch for a goal kick. Sparks’ lead was, however, short-lived as they handled the ball in the box while defending a set-piece. She stepped on the spot to convert for the lead as the match headed to the breather with the varsity side holding the advantage. Christine Chitsunyu scored Ulinzi’s equaliser 13 minutes into the second half. The two sides unsuccessfully searched for a winning goal, with the military side missing a few clear chances for the stalemate. Meawhile, holders Thika Queens continued their winning ways, beating visiting Wadadia FC 3-2.
