Posta dent City Stars’ title hopes

Nairobi City Stars slipped further in the title race after going down 2-1 to Posta Rangers handing Kakamega Homeboyz an 11 point gap at the summit of the log following a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) clash staged at the Thika Stadium.City Stars were reeling after their deflating 2-0 loss at the hands of rivals Bidco United over the weekend in a clash that will be remembered for the shambolic refereeing that saw them trail log leaders by eight points.Posta were in the same boat as Simba wa Nairobi after going down 3-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz over the weekend with handed head coach Salim Ali his first defeat at the club.Posta had a great start to the game and needed only five minutes to open the scoring through Patrick Otieno who was handed a rare start since making the move from Kariobangi Sharks as he received a cut back from Brian Marita and tapped in the ball with ease as he was left in acres of space. The same combination almost bore fruit to the second goal two minutes later when former Tusker FC winger Brian Marita floated in a pinpoint cross that found the head of Otieno but the ball sailed just wide off the mark.City Stars got their first chance of the game three minutes after the half-hour mark when Davis Agesa found Oliver Maloba with his cross but when attempting to head the ball on target it hit his shoulder and went out for a goal kick.Nicholas Muyoti’s charges found the breakthrough in the first minute of added time when Dennis Wanjala floated in a freekick onto the back post from the right channel as Lennox Ogutu’s header just sneaked into the net to ensure City Stars went into the halftime break level.Posta returned strong in the second half as they created a number of chances but poor finishing let them down in the opening 20 minutes of the closing half with Jackson Dwang and Brian Otieno the main culprits. With the wind in their sails, Posta finally found the net in the 83rd minute when Wasambo cut back the ball to Sammy Imbuye who had just been in the pitch for four minutes as he controlled the ball and drilled it into the back of the net.City Stars had the ball in the back of the net in the 88th minute when Timothy Ouma whipped in a freekick that was punched as far as Kennedy Onyango who poked the ball home but the linesman raised the flag which resulted in the goal being chalked off.City Stars XI: Stephen Njunge, Kevin Okumu, Kennedy Onyango, Lennox Ogutu, Dennis Wanjala, Sven Yidah, Anthony Kimani, Timothy Ouma, Titus Agesa (Rodgers Okumu 64′), Oliver Maloba (Eric Ombija 64′), Nicholas Kipkirui.Unused Subs: Elvis Ochoro, Herit Mungai, Calvins Masawa, Peter Opiyo, Agustine Kuta, Salim Abdalla, Vincent Otieno.Posta XI: Jirus Adira, Dinken Mwema (Cavin Odongo 79′), David Ochieng, Suleiman Ngotho, Michael Apudo, Vincent Wasambo, Patrick Otieno, Brian Marita (Eluid Lokuwam 61′), Brian Otieno, Dwang Jackson (Sammy Imbuye 79′), Sammy Odero.Unused Subs: John Njau, Kennedy Odhiambo, , Sammy Meja, Victor Majid, Victor Ndinya, Francis Nambute.
