This was incredible theater. The world’s best struggling to hit an island green. Wayward shots coming as frequently as dropped 8-footers. PGA Tour pros looking as baffled as weekend warriors, not knowing where the next shots would end up.
Saturday at the Players Championship started with a lengthy delay as a storm cell passed through, and ended up with some of the most indelible images from the current 2021-22 season.
Most looked haggard and beaten when they finished. Some never played a single stroke of the second round.
