SAFA hands Akumu’s Chiefs a boost

Kaizer Chiefs have expressed their satisfaction with the ruling of the arbitration at the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) to rescind the decision to issue walkovers for the two games that they failed to honor in December.Chiefs did not play two matches against Golden Arrows and Cape Town City due to a massive Covid-19 outbreak at the club. The club then pleaded with PSL to have the two matches postponed but PSL denied to push the games forward and went on to award points to the two opponents.Chiefs then decided to appeal at SAFA’s arbitration board and the case was ruled in their favor meaning the two matches will have to be played. The move is a massive boost for the Chiefs who are third in the premiership standings with 35 points. They are 16 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns, but with four games in hand over the league leaders.Training and camp preparations ❤️✌️ #DStvPrem #Amakhosi4Life pic.twitter.com/qSmbQcBVMR— Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) March 18, 2022 Chiefs is home to Kenyan international Teddy Akumu.Chiefs statementKaizer Chiefs are pleased that justice has been served by the arbitration ruling handed down at SAFA on Friday afternoon by Advocate Nazeer Cassim SC after the Club challenged the League’s decision to charge Amakhosi for being unable to fulfill two fixtures due to a massive Covid-19 outbreak that befell us in December 2021.The decision we took to request the postponement of matches late last year was in the interest of safety for all concerned, our families, football colleagues and all the stakeholders involved in the game. And, now that the matches will be played, it is in the interest of football that points should be won or lost through matches played on the field of play as opposed to the boardrooms. We want to thank everyone who supported our cause. We are also grateful this ruling will return the value to our sponsors, Amakhosi supporters and the League’s sponsors. We truly feel vindicated by the decision and look forward to playing the two outstanding DStv Premiership matches.
