Spain left it late twice to turn their domination into a win over lowly Albania

Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo scored two great goals as Spain ran out 2-1 winners over Albania in what turned out to be more of a drama than anyone expected. For over 70 minutes, Spain were knocking on the Albanian door at Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium, but it remained firmly shut. But then came a moment of magic and a sublime finish from Barcelona forward Ferran Torres to give Spain a thoroughly deserved lead. It should have been the same old story: favourites struggling to break down a defensively-minded team, but managing to do so with a late goal. End of story. But not quite. The Albanians, who haven’t had a shot on target all night up to that point, managed to equalise – almost against their will. Myrto Uzuni was hit on the head by a clumsy Pau Torres clearance and the ball beat goalkeeper David Raya to make it 1-1 with five minutes remaining. It would have been tough on Luis Enrique’s team not to end up winners tonight – friendly or not. And they did get their win in a spectacular manner.Former Barcelona youngster Dani Olmo controlled the ball in the box and curled a beautiful effort beyond Etrit Berisha to send the home fans into raptures. It was such a crazy game and it would have been even stranger had Olmo not found the classy winner. The hosts have held the ball in their feet for over 80 per cent of the time, had seven times as many completed passes and had ten more shots at goal. It was deserved alright.La Furia Roja’s midfield trio of Gavi, Rodri and Pedri has just the right balance that will make Spain one of the candidates to lift the World Cup in Qatar.
