Mwalala downplays early title talks

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Bernard Mwalala is refusing to get carried away by the possibility of bagging this season’s league title with his side sitting comfortably at the apex of the log. With 12 matches left before the season comes to a close, Homeboyz lead the pack with 49 points, eight more than second-placed Tusker FC who are also the defending league champions. The odds look to be in favor as Tusker and record champions Gor Mahia have to face each other twice in the remaining matches of the season and this could be an opportunity for Mwalala’s charges to widen the gap at the top and eventually win their first-ever league title.Mwalala however believes that it is too soon to start counting their chicks and wants his team to focus on one game at a time. He says his team has to approach each game with the intention of winning.I may have found a club in Kenya to support. We are not focused much on what will happen at the end of the season but we try and give our best with each passing game and see where we will be in the last 3-4 games of the season. I believe when we reach that stage, it will be clear as to whether we can win the title or not, ” Mwalala told Mozzart Sport. The tactician further disclosed that he tries to keep his players focused as he believes that premature excitement can be catastrophic.”I try to keep my players focused because excitement can be counterproductive. I advise them to remain committed to the course because despite the lead we have, we are far from winning it, and getting carried away can ruin things. We definitely want to win the title but we have to keep building, keep improving and keep winning, ” he added.
