Carlos Quieroz announces departure from Egyptian national team after World Cup miss

Portuguese tactician Carlos Quieroz has announced his immediate departure from the Egyptian national team after failing to steer the Pharaohs to the upcoming 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup.On Tuesday evening, Egypt’s hopes of making it back to back appearances at the World Cup were shattered as Senegal, for a second time, got the better of them in an epic post-match penalty shootout where Liverpool ace Sadio Mane, cool as ice, scored the deciding penalty to send the African champions to the quadrennial tournament slated to start in November 2022.Mane sends Senegal to QatarFollowing the result that saw the Mohammed Salah captained side fail to get their 2021 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) final revenge and consequently miss out on the prestigious global tourney, Quieroz announced his departure from the team with immediate effect.“Dream is over. To the future,” he added.Before posting on his platform, the former Manchester United assistant coach informed journalists of his decision to step down during the post-match conference.“My dream was to get Egypt to the World Cup, but it was Cissé who qualified with Senegal. The game is over. We, unfortunately, failed to reach the World Cup. It is all over and there is not a lot of things to say. We started the game out of focus and at a high temperature, we do not say these are reasons for the defeat, but they are contributing factors,” Quieroz remarked.
