Ghana’s new technical director didn’t waste any time: Chris Hughton is after Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tariq Lamptey! Being a Ghana supporter these days is thrilling and exciting. First of all, the Black Stars, under the guidance of interim coach Otto Addo and new technical director, made it against all odds and booked a ticket for the World Cup with an away win in Nigeria. Chelsea’s youngster Hudson-Odoi is currently mulling his Ghana switch, but if we go back a year ago, he was still mulling. Hudson-Odoi has three senior caps for England with the latest of those coming in the European Championship qualifier in Kosovo in November 2019. But Chelsea’s winger turned down the call from U21 team to play against Romania and Kosovo in August 2021, and then turned down a call-up by Gareth Southgate for the matches against Albania and San Marino last November.Nigeria boss quits after failing to reach World CupSurely, Southgate had Callum’s undecidedness in mind and wanted to push him to play for England, but he youngster didn’t took the ‘bait’. Avoiding that, means he could switch sides in time for Qatar. It’s also worth mentioning that Chris Hughton met with Bismark Odoi, Callum’s father, during their family holiday in Ghana in late January. Chris Hughton was also set to meet the family of English-born Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey, his former player in Brighton.17.00: (1.35) Chelsea (4.90) Brentford (9.50)Ghana FA communications director Henry Asante Twum revealed that the Black Stars are monitoring the situation and only need a nod from the future coach to take action. “If it is that we wake up tomorrow and the new coach of the Black Stars wants Tariq Lamptey, Hudson-Odoi, whoever is available, we will look at the regulations and the possibility of getting them. If it is within our reach, we pursue it. The new law for nationality switch is that you should be three years from your last game from the association you want to switch from, so it means that if today, Hudson-Odoi played for England three years ago, we will look at the month in which he played, and if it is exactly two years, he has every right to switch nationality” he told Citi TV. So, the new Black Stars coach will have the right to choose.
