Stewart’s last gasp goal steals point for Tusker against KCB

Stewart Omondi’s brilliant goal in the dying minutes saw Tusker claim a point as the Brewers forced a 1-1 stalemate against KCB FC in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) clash staged at the Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday.A dejected Zedekiah Zico Otieno demoaned the last minute goal scored by Stewart Omondi as he claimed the goal was scored from an offside position.”Teams invest a lot in training and a single mistake from a match official costs a team and I’m taking about something that I have seen, it was a clear offside and we need to improve if we are to take Kenyan football ahead,” said Zico.Tusker head coach Robert Matano lamented the numerous chances that they failed to burry but was delighted to gain a point with the last kick of the game.”We got one but we wanted three, we struggled and wasted a number of chances, when you are a goal down you have to fight so much to get something from the game but better one point than nothing,” said Matano.Tusker came into the clash looking to maintain their 11 game unbeaten run that thrust them back into the title race after a wobbly start to the season that had seen them battle at the wrong end of the table.KCB on the other hand were going through a rough patch having won only twice in the last 11 games and saw their title credentials take a hit.Robert Matano’s charges had a bright start to the game but failed to capitalize on the numerous chance that came from set pieces as Humphrey Mieno, Stewart Omondi and Jackson Macharia were the quilty party of spurning the chances.KCB made them pay for squandering the plethora of chances as John Mwangi touched the ball to Derrick Otanga from a freekick as his ball foul the bottom right corner leaving Patrick Matasi rooted to the ground as he wheeled away in celebration. The Bankers sat back and soaked up the pressure, hitting on the counter and almost doubled their lead two minutes after the half hour mark when John Mwangi laid the ball off to Simon Munala but his stinging shot was well dealt with by Matasi.Tusker came close to going into the half time break level when Stewart Omondi dribbled to the byline and cut the ball back to Jackson Macharia whose feeble shot was deflected wide but nothing came out of the corner as KCB went into the break leading 1-0.The second half saw the continuation of Tusker attacking and KCB sitting back but the Brewers lacked the precision to curve open the sturdy Bankers defense.KCB were seemingly headed for three points but Stewart Omondi had other ideas as his over head kick in the 94th minute saw Tusker claim a point after dominating proceedings in the second half with the former Vihiga United midfielder capped his brilliant performance in the game with a goal.Tusker XI: Patrick Matasi, Isaac Kipyegon, Charles Momanyi, Christopher Oruchum, Daniel Salari, Jackson Macharia (Eric Zakayo 63′), Humphrey Mieno, Shami Mwinyi (Lawrence Luvanda 79′), Rodgers Ouma (Apollo Otieno 63′), Stewart Omondi, Deogracious Ojok (David Majak 63′).Unused Subs: Brian Bwire, Carlos Kirenge, Jimmy Mbugua, Clyde Senaji, John Njuguna.KCB XI: David Okello, Baraka Badi, Nashon Alembi, Brian Ochieng, David Odhiambo, Michael Mutinda, Mohammed Kilume, James Mazembe (Reagan Otieno 60′), Simon Munala (Samuel Mwangi 60′), Derrick Otanga (Henry Onyango 79′), John Mwangi (Sydney Lokale 79′).Unused Subs: Gabriel Andika, Michael Oduor, Thomas Harun.
