Babu shreds referee Libese after Sudi Stadium penalty glut

Nzoia Sugar FC head coach Salim Babu has taken a swipe at controversial referee Nyabera Libese for what he termed as poor officiating in his side’s 2-1 defeat to Bandari FC on Sunday afternoon at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma. The millers suffered their first defeat under Babu in a game that saw four penalties awarded; two to either side. Bandari converted their two while Nzoia missed one, deep into stoppage time, a spot kick that would have earned them a point and preserve their unbeaten run under the former Kisumu All-Stars coach. It started with a 14th minute penalty awarded to the Dockers, a decision that Nzoia players protested leading to a five-minute stoppage, the spot kick was eventually missed by Umaru Kasumba. Next was Nzoia spot kick in the 44th minute which was equally contested, James Kibande stepped forward to score.Kenyan Premier League Sunday resultsNzoia Sugar FC 1-2 Bandari FCNairobi City Stars 0-0 Ulinzi Stars Sofapaka FC 1-1 Kakamega HomeboyzWazito FC 1-2 AFC Leopards #FKFPL #KenyanFootball #Football #JazaStadi pic.twitter.com/6EjKj9xQSL— Jaza Stadi (@jaza_stadi) April 10, 2022 Three minutes from time, Libese awarded Bandari a second penalty kick which Kevin Kimani converted and he wasn’t done as deep into stoppage time Nzoia got their second but Michael Wanyika stood tall to deny them and earn his side maximum points. In his post-match interview, the ever-calm Babu did not have any kind words for the seasoned who has been on the spot light on a number of occasions for contentious officiating.”We need better officiating, it’s not a game here, this is a circus. A team prepares all week and trains all month only to have the game destroyed by poor officiating. We demand better officiating, I am not disappointed by the result, but by the decisions and calls made by the referee, this has to stop”, he told the Nation. The two teams meet again in Mombasa next weekend.
