City Stars midfielder lauds team character ahead of final phase of the season

Nairobi City Stars defensive midfielder Charles Otieno has lauded the team’s character in the 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) that has seen the Jonathan Jackson funded outfit transform themselves into one of the title contenders in the ongoing campaign.Last season, the club, under the stewardship of Bosnian Sanjin Alagic, finished in seventh place in their first outing in the top flight after gaining promotion from the second tier National Super League.And at the start of the current campaign, the team was expected to take some time to get into rhythm after current head coach Nicholas Muyoti took over from Alagic who stepped down from his role.EXCL: Nicholas Muyoti is the new Nairobi City Stars head coach.He takes over from Sanjin Alagic who resigned July.The former Oserian FC, Zetech University FC, Thika United and Nzoia Sugar FC coach will be deputised by club legend John Amboko.#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/MLyxV3T7SA— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) August 30, 2021 However, that was not the case as the team instantly hit the ground running with the former Kakamega Homeboyz coach leading the Kawangware based side to be among the top three contenders since the season commenced.Despite the current third placed team losing some steam with three defeats in their last six games, Otieno has been left impressed with their mettle and has vowed that they will keep pushing till the last game.“It is about our character as a team that has got us going considering the recent disappointments of losing. But we are standing tall and fighting hard,” he is quoted as saying in the club’s portal. In their remaining games, the team will face Ulinzi Stars, Sofapaka, Kenya Police FC, Wazito, Tusker, KCB, Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards before wrapping up with Talanta FC.
