FKF Caretaker Committee to avail funds for Harambee Stars AFCON qualification

FKF Caretaker Committee Chairman Aaron Ringera has confirmed that they will draw a budget to help Harambee Stars prepare for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification matches that start in June.On Tuesday, Stars was pooled in Group C for the 2023 AFCON qualification; the biannual tournament will be played in Cameroon in June 2023. In Group C Kenya will face 2021 hosts Cameroon, Namibia, and East African neighbors Burundi. There is however one more hurdle for Kenya. They have to get the suspension that was slapped on the country by FIFA in February lifted. The world football governing body moved to suspend Kenya over government interference. This came after the sports cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed disbanded Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over alleged funds embezzlement and installed the Ringera led committee to run football activities in the country for six months, their mandate ends on 10th May.The eternal optimist I am tells me that Harambee Stars can qualify for Afcon from this group. Three home wins and a draw. Then pinch a win away from home. As the committee, we will prepare a budget to help the team in the qualifiers but as you know, there have to be talks between us and others,” he stated.Kenya will begin their qualification campaign away in Cameroon before hosting Namibia in Nairobi. A double-header against Burundi will then follow before Cameroon travel to Nairobi. The final clash will be away in Windhoek Namibia. Only two teams will make it out of group C.Kenya last featured at the biannual showpiece in 2019 when it was staged in Egypt. The team however exited the competition at the group stage level after losing to finalists Senegal and winners Algeria. They picked one win over neighbors Tanzania.
